Famous for its oysters, delicious fresh seafood and splendid seawater lagoon, Oualidia is a dreamy Atlantic fishing town. Here a chain of contorted sea cliffs has two breaks allowing the tidal waters of the wild Atlantic Ocean to create a tranquil and very picturesque lagoon. Nearby, the Oualidia estuary is a haven for migratory birds.

The drive northwest from Marrakech is especially scenic. You’ll pass numerous farms with their livestock and crops. Arriving at Oualidia your first glimpse of its stunning lagoon is from a viewpoint at the top of a twisting road that descends to sea level.

Next, you’ll take a relaxing boat trip across the tidal lagoon and up into the river estuary. Have your camera ready as there is usually an abundance of birds. Once in the estuary oyster nets can be seen – the start of several kilometres of oyster farms. Back on land you can choose your lunch spot – perhaps fresh fish cooked on the beach or a seafood restaurant. Afterwards a long walk along the stunning beach is a favourite. You could take a swim off the gently sloping beach into the lagoon. Alternatively, camels and horses are available for hire.

0830   Depart Marrakech. Coffee/tea stop en route to Oualidia.

1100   Arrive at L’Hippocampe, our lagoon-side base for the day.

1130   Included boat trip with bird watching on Oualidia lagoon.

1230   Free time for seafood lunch, beach, kayak or mountain bike hire.

1630   Depart Oualidia back to Marrakech.

1900   Arrive back in Marrakech.
